I created this mount to attach some very cheap cellphones to the front of my...Show more Replicator 2/2X for remote print monitoring.

I found the LG Sunrise for TracFone at Walmart for the low LOW price of $9. This low end Android phone doesn't need to be activated on a cellular network which was a huge plus for me. While the camera is pretty low end (2MP) it works great for keeping an eye on prints remotely (and is affordable enough for me to add it to all my printers!). By adding a cheap fish eye lens I get a wider view of my prints, you can find several on Amazon for under $5.

For software I added IP Webcam Pro Pro to the phones. This $4 app gives you both a web portal and IP camera access remotely. The Sunrise is able to run this 24/7 while plugged into the wall without running down the battery. With this cheap setup ($13 total) you're able to emulate IP cameras like the Dropcam for a fraction of the price.

I started with dmpmassive's great Dropcam Webcam Replicator 2/2X Mount. I really like the way the mount sits flush on the top of the Replicator 2 so this was a great base for my alterations.

I then took some measurements with my calipers to approximate the shape of the Sunrise. While the shape of the mount isn't 100% fit to the back of the phone (the curves were hard to measure) it holds on to the phone very securely, and has been helping me make sure my prints are not failing (and my house is not burning down) for several months.
